Boninsegna and Schweigkofler claim maiden wins at Ciaminada Nonesa

Over 300 athletes took part in the 14th edition. Both senior winners were first-time victors at the race - and both ran for SC Meran. Boninsegna set a new course record.

Two new names, both racing for SC Meran, wrote themselves into the Ciaminada Nonesa’s roll of honor: Luca Boninsegna, born 1986, and his wife Andrea Schweigkofler, born 1984. Boninsegna won the men’s senior race in a new course record of 17’30”7; Schweigkofler dominated the women’s race, finishing just 10 seconds off the record set by Lisa Leuprecht in 2023.

The 14th edition drew over 300 athletes of all ages, from the youngest Minicuccioli to the master categories. A sunny day brought out the full green of the Pradiei meadows between Sarnonico and Romeno, with many families competing alongside one another.

Men’s race

Mirko Tomasi (5 Stelle Seregnano) shot to the front immediately, but his pace faded at the second kilometer and he yielded the lead to Boninsegna and Rachid Ait Hassain (Usam Baitona). The two ran shoulder to shoulder until the third kilometer, just before Romeno; then, at the top of the descent, Boninsegna shifted gears and pulled away to win alone. The course covers 5.3 km along the Pradiei cycling path, passing the bicigrill and the golf courses. Ait Hassain finished second, 16.9 seconds back, with Maximilian Profanter (Schlern) third at 40.7 seconds. Matteo Vecchietti (Atletica Valle di Cembra), Simon Mair (Südtiroler LV), and Maurizio Cattani (Usam Baitona) completed the top six.

Women’s race

Andrea Schweigkofler ran solo from the gun, setting a pace that left no room for her rivals. She crossed the line in 20’10”3, just 10 seconds off the course record - a margin she attributed to having no precise time references during the race. Selina Christandl (Laatsch-Taufers) took second at 38.5 seconds, with teammate Annemarie Schöpf third. Elektra Bonvecchio (5 Stelle Seregnano), who had won this race back in 2016, finished fourth.

Youth categories

The junior races produced wins for Markus Mair (Oberwielenbach) and Lina Wallisch (Bozen Raiffeisen) in the Allievi; Davide Parisi and Elisa Zucchelli, both from Atletica Alto Garda e Ledro, in the Cadetti; Paul Werth (Kaltern) and Lea Theiner (SC Meran) in the Ragazzi; Samuele Pallaoro (Borgo) and Amelie Wieser (Deutschnofen) in the Esordienti; and Samuele Aiardi (Quercia) and Anna Seppi (SC Meran) in the Cuccioli.

In the senior age-group categories, starting from the youngest, the men’s winners were Rachid Ait Hassain, Luca Boninsegna, Matteo Vecchietti, Matthias Agethle, Karl Lercher, Frowin Stecher, Helmut Pazeller, and Delio Dalcolmo; the women’s winners were Lucia Zucchelli, Selina Christandl, Andrea Schweigkofler, Annemarie Schöpf, Diana Dardha, Mirka Lorenzani, Cristina Celva, and Rosy Pattis.

Winners’ words

“I had never managed to take part in this race before - I could never get away. Finally I could,” said Boninsegna.

“I came here to win, and that’s exactly what happened,” added Schweigkofler.

A family win

For the first time in the Ciaminada’s history, the men’s and women’s senior titles went to a couple: Boninsegna and Schweigkofler are not just clubmates, but husband and wife. Both claimed their first victory in Val di Non on the same afternoon.
