Franceschini and Pircher win the eighth edition in the first VSS year
Emanuele Franceschini (GS Trilacum) and Petra Pircher (ASC Laas Raiffeisen) won the eighth Ciaminada, the first edition to count as a VSS Raiffeisen running series race.
The eighth edition of the Ciaminada Nonesa took place on Sunday, October 21, 2018, in Sarnonico. It was the first year the race was part of the VSS Raiffeisen running circuit, the South Tyrolean sports federation, bringing new athletes from across the provincial border.
Men
Emanuele Franceschini (GS Trilacum) won the men’s race in 1:17:24. Franceschini had already raced at the Ciaminada the year before, finishing third; this time he made the decisive move to the top.
Women
Petra Pircher (ASC Laas Raiffeisen) won the women’s race in 1:28:25, setting the fastest women’s time in the history of the event at this distance.
The first year in the VSS circuit
The entry into the VSS Raiffeisen running circuit, announced earlier in 2018, had broadened the field beyond Trentino. The presence of South Tyrolean athletes, which had been growing in previous years, received an institutional framework this edition: the Ciaminada was now officially recognized as a round of the South Tyrolean sports calendar.
