Wegher and Menestrina win the fifth edition, first year as CSI championship race

Simone Wegher (Atletica Clarina Trentino) and Simonetta Menestrina (U.S. 5 Stelle) won the fifth Ciaminada, the first edition to count toward the CSI provincial championship.

The fifth edition of the Ciaminada Nonesa took place on Sunday, October 18, 2015, in Sarnonico, starting and finishing at the sports center. For the first time the race counted toward the CSI provincial championship, a recognition that brought a wider field of registered athletes to the start line.

Men

Simone Wegher (Atletica Clarina Trentino) won the men’s race in 1:16:35. Wegher had already won the inaugural 2011 edition, and this fifth edition confirmed his connection with the Ciaminada.

Women

Simonetta Menestrina (U.S. 5 Stelle) won the women’s race in 1:30:21.

An official milestone

Inclusion in the CSI provincial championship brought the Ciaminada a new category of competitors: athletes accustomed to racing in Trentino’s federation calendar. Together with the historic 21.097 km course from Sarnonico through Fondo, Malosco, Ronzone, Cavareno, Amblar, Romeno, and back, the event had fully established itself as a fixture on the Val di Non running calendar.
