Three hundred runners set to race at "Sarnonico in corsa" on Sunday
Three hundred runners will race at "Sarnonico in corsa" on Sunday: 22 events on the schedule, from Minicuccioli to masters.
More than three hundred athletes of all ages will gather in Val di Non this year for one of the most popular running meets of the fall in Trentino and South Tyrol. The event is “Sarnonico in corsa”, formerly known as “Ciaminada Nonesa”, which is scheduled for this coming Sunday. The course, laid out by Sci Club Fondisti Alta Val di Non through the village center and the Pradiei plain, will host 11 men’s and 11 women’s races. The program starts at 11:00 with the Minicuccioli, then moves through increasingly longer distances for the Esordienti, Ragazzi, Cadetti, and Allievi categories before closing with the main race for juniors, seniors, and masters over 5.3 kilometers. The race counts as the regional championship for sports-promotion organizations and is part of the regional “Stadt- und Dorfläufe” circuit organized by the Verband der Sportvereine Südtirols. That is why so many running enthusiasts come to Sarnonico from nearby South Tyrol, often entire families competing in different categories.
It is not easy to draw up a list of favorites once registration closes, partly because a few top runners often join at the last minute. At this point, Elektra Bonvecchio, Giulia Franchi, Tanja Scrinzi, and Selina Christanel are confirmed for the women’s race, while Mirko Tomasi, veteran Franco Torresani, Gabriel Pichler, and Konstantin Wedel are set to race among the men. A year ago, Luca Boninsegna and Andrea Schweigkofler took the two wins, with Boninsegna also setting a new event record of 17’30”7.
After the competition, runners can refuel and get a drink at the Sarnonico Sports Center, outside which the awards ceremony will be held.
